Benefits of Microneedling Treatment
Microneedling involves the use of tiny needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin, stimulating collagen production and promoting skin renewal. This process aids in reducing the appearance of scars, including acne scars, and fine lines while improving overall skin texture and tone.
Collagen Production:
Microneedling stimulates collagen production, leading to improved skin texture and elasticity.
Reduced Scarring:
It can help reduce the appearance of scars, including acne scars, by encouraging new skin cell growth.
Fine Line and Wrinkle Reduction:
By promoting collagen production, microneedling can diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Even Skin Tone:
It can help even out skin tone and reduce hyperpigmentation, resulting in a more radiant complexion.
Minimally Invasive:
Microneedling is minimally invasive and requires little downtime, making it a convenient option for many individuals.
Customizable Treatment:
The depth of the needles can be adjusted to target specific skin concerns, providing a customizable treatment approach.
Enhanced Product Absorption:
Microneedling creates tiny channels in the skin, allowing for better absorption of skincare products, maximizing their effectiveness.

Frequently Asked Questions
Micro-needling is used to treat almost all skin problems – with the exception of spider veins. It can be used to treat:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Acne scars
- Large pores
- Uneven pigmentation
- Stretch marks
The number of treatments required depends on a number of factors such as the severity of the conditions being treated, the age of the person being treated (younger people will respond better to treatment than older clients), the condition being treated (large pores will be significantly reduced after only 1 treatment while stretch marks may require significantly more treatments).
The condition of your skin prior to treatment (people who follow a good skin care regimen will generally react better to treatment than those who have not cared for their skin as well).
At your consultation, your Tropicalaser skin care expert will give you an idea of how many treatments you may require.
Treatments should be taken 6 – 8 weeks apart. The cascade of healing initiated by micro-needling will continue for 8 weeks after treatment. Retreatment after 6 weeks but before the healing is complete will take advantage of the momentum built up by the prior treatment.
An exception to this time interval is our pigmentation protocol where we prefer to retreat at 3 week intervals. This is because the pigmentation protocol uses a less aggressive micro-needling.
We routinely numb our clients before treatment to make the procedure as comfortable as possible. We do not charge for this. Most people tolerate the treatment very well with little discomfort.
Your face will be quite red following treatment. Older clients may have slight abrasions visible. We ask clients not to apply anything to their faces on the day of treatment but the next morning products from our post treatment kit should be applied.
Downtime with micro-needling is really short. Any temporary discolouration can usually be covered with light make-up the day following treatment.
Those clients who don’t use any foundation will usually find their face has completely recovered by day 3 or 4 (depending on their age – older clients may take a little longer to heal).
It’s important to remember with micro-needling that the purpose is to inflict micro-wounds to initiate a cascade of orderly healing. Inflicting more severe wounds (by using the wrong profile needles or going to too great depths) could cause scarring. With micro-needling less is more!
After you finish your treatment, we will give you a post treatment kit containing a gentle cleanser, a recovery balm (moisturizer) and a sunscreen.
These products, and only these products, should be used morning and night for the 5 days following treatment. The price of the post treatment kit is included in the price of the micro-needling treatment.
As is true of most facial treatments, it is strongly advised that you do not go into the sun without sunscreen and any time in bright, summer sunshine should be limited for the 2 weeks following treatment.
Micro-needling is safe for all but the very darkest skins. We can, and have treated all Fitzpatrick skin types (1 through 6). Blue-black skin is the only possible exception.
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) treatment involves drawing blood from the client, centrifuging the blood to extract plasma and then microneedling the client over a film of this platelet rich blood. Studies have shown that this has little or no advantage but does command a much higher price.
At Tropicalaser we don’t offer this because of the lack of a proven advantage over conventional micro-needling.
Unfortunately there are many devices being used that do not have Health Canada approval.
The eDermaStamp device was the first of its kind to receive Health Canada approval and remains one of only a handful of approved devices. Other (non-approved) devices/treatments have the following potential disadvantages: the wrong needle profile; too few or too many needles in a cartridge; non-sterile equipment or consumables.
All of these can result in poor results or even damage to the skin. Please beware of people offering home-based treatments. They are unlikely to be insured or have the necessary safety protocols in place to ensure a safe and effective treatment.
From the age of about 25, we start to lose collagen at the rate of 1 – 1.5% per year. Therefore 25 and over is a good time to start micro-needling to maintain healthy, collagen-rich skin. It is easier to prevent a wrinkle than to repair one.
Regrettably, aging is a continuous process. However, the difference between micro-needling and, say, Botox or fillers, is that it actually repairs the skin. The other treatments have a finite lifetime. Our treatment will counter and delay the natural aging process.
